Enveloper

Apple

Enveloper is a dynamics processor that uniquely shapes the attack and release phases of a signal's transients, operating independently of input level. Unlike compressors or expanders, it allows you to add snap to drums, amplify pick sounds on strings, or attenuate percussive onsets, while also controlling reverb character by boosting or cutting the release phase.

Key Features

01Attack Gain slider for boosting or attenuating attack phase
02Release Gain slider for boosting or attenuating release phase
03Attack Time and Release Time knobs with millisecond-level control
04Threshold slider with minimum-value operation mode
05Lookahead slider for pre-read analysis time
06Display showing attack and release curves
07Out Level slider for output compensation

Things to Try

  • 01Boost the attack phase to add snap to drum sounds or amplify initial pluck of stringed instruments
  • 02Attenuate the attack phase to make percussive signals fade in more softly
  • 03Mute the attack phase to make it virtually inaudible for creative processing
  • 04Boost the release phase to accentuate reverb applied to the channel strip
  • 05Attenuate the release phase to make reverb-drenched tracks sound drier
  • 06Use Attack Time values around 20 ms and Release Time values around 1500 ms as a starting point
  • 07Raise the Threshold slider slightly when significantly boosting release phase to limit processing to useful signal parts and reduce noise amplification
