Compressor

BF-76

Avid

The BF-76 is a vintage-style compressor plugin modeled after the classic solid-state 1176 studio compressor, preserving the sonic subtleties of the original FET-based design. Available in DSP, Native, and AudioSuite formats, it provides four selectable compression ratios (4:1 to 20:1) with variable attack and release times for studio-quality compression. Its distinctive character comes from faithful emulation of the 1176's unique compression sound, including the ability to generate harmonic distortion at fast settings.

Key Features

01Four selectable compression ratios (4:1 to 20:1)
02Variable attack times (0.4–5.7 milliseconds)
03Variable release times (60–1,100 milliseconds)
04Separate Input and Output controls
05GR and output level metering options
06All Buttons In mode with modified knee behavior
07Mono, multi-mono, or stereo operation
08DSP, Native, and AudioSuite formats

Things to Try

  • 01Use 8:1 ratio on the stereo bus for a punchy 'instant radio hit' compression sound
  • 02Start attack and release at defaults of '6' and '3', then adjust slower attack for punch preservation and faster release to avoid unnecessary pumping between loud passages
  • 03Shift-click a Ratio Pushswitch to enable All Buttons In mode for modified knee behavior with expander-like characteristics
  • 04When using AudioSuite version, ensure a side-chain input is selected (defaulting to 'None' will prevent compression)
