Exhale is a modern vocal engine featuring three distinct play modes (Notes, Loops, and Slices) for creative vocal manipulation and performance. The instrument combines real vocal samples recorded by top producers with a comprehensive modulation and effects system, allowing users to shape, modulate, and process vocals through mod effects, insert effects, and macro control. With 500 presets and extensive sound-design capabilities, Exhale excels at creating expressive, textured vocal layers and performances.

01Three play modes: Notes (20 one-shots, 20 pads, 40 tape sources), Loops (40 banks with 13 loops each), and Slices (40 banks with 13 slices each)
02Six mod effects with rhythm-based modulation: volume, pan, filter, phaser, talk (formant filter), and saturate
03Seven insert effects: pitch, dirt (screamer/cabinet/lo-fi), motion (chorus/flanger/rotator), compressor, tone, delay, and reverb with over 16 convolution algorithms
04Rhythm panel with LFO or step sequencer modulation at rates from 8 bars to 1/128 bar, plus flux secondary sequencer
05Four macro sliders, each assignable to up to six parameters for simultaneous control of up to 24 parameters
06Formant shift and 4-band EQ controls for acoustic resonance adjustment
07500 presets with 12-tag filtering system

Things to Try

  • 01Use the Flux secondary sequencer to vary modulation rate over time; Flux amount makes for a great macro assignment
  • 02Stack the same notes multiple times in Tape mode by engaging the Stack button with sustain pedal held, retriggering notes with syncopated rhythms
  • 03Use the Talk effect to morph between vowel sounds such as 'Ooh' to 'Eee' by adjusting formant filtering
  • 04Apply the Saturate mod effect to simulate soft compression and distortion of magnetic tape recorders
