Channel Dynamics is a rack-format dynamics processor that combines a flexible compressor with soft-knee characteristics and a gate/expander section for comprehensive dynamic control. Designed as the standalone equivalent to Reason's Main Mixer dynamics section, it adds Input Gain and Dry/Wet Mix controls, making it ideal for detailed dynamic shaping in both the VST3 plugin version and standalone Reason environments.

Things to Try

  • 01Use Peak mode for compression of sounds with fast attacks like drums to capture transients instantly
  • 02Set Release to short values for pumping compressor effects, or longer values for smoother dynamic changes
  • 03Apply Fast gate mode (100µs per 40 dB) for percussive material where the waveform rises steeply in very short time
  • 04Use external sidechain to trigger the gate with a drum loop on a synth pad channel to create rhythmic chord effects
