Channel EQ

Reason Studios

Channel EQ is a four-band parametric equalizer with integrated high-pass and low-pass filters, designed as the rack version of Reason's Main Mixer EQ section. It features switchable operating modes (standard and E Mode) that alter curve characteristics, making it suitable for surgical tone shaping across the full frequency spectrum from 20 Hz to 22 kHz.

Key Features

01Four-band EQ with parametric midrange (LMF and HMF) and shelving low/high bands
0218 dB/octave high-pass filter (20 Hz - 4 kHz) and 12 dB/octave low-pass filter (100 Hz - 20 kHz)
03LF and HF shelving bands with switchable Bell mode for peaking characteristics
04E Mode toggle: in standard mode Gain affects Q bandwidth; in E Mode bandwidth remains constant
05LMF and HMF parametric bands with Q range 0.70 - 2.50
06All gain ranges +/- 20 dB with level-compensating Gain knob (+/- 18 dB)
07CV modulation inputs for HPF Freq, LPF Freq, LMF Gain, LMF Frequency, HMF Gain, and HMF Frequency

Things to Try

  • 01Use the high-pass filter to remove low-frequency rumble and mud—set HPF Freq between 80–120 Hz to thin out muddy sources
  • 02Switch to E Mode when you want consistent bandwidth across all Gain settings for more predictable mid-range sculpting
  • 03Activate LF or HF Bell mode to switch from shelving to peaking behavior and target specific resonances with narrow Q values
