Oxford Dynamics

Sonnox

Oxford Dynamics is a professional dynamics processor plugin offering separate Compressor, Limiter, Expander, and Gate sections with fully independent parameter control. Based on the OXF-R3 console, it employs feed-forward architecture with logarithmic sidechain processing and look-ahead techniques to deliver transparent yet versatile dynamic control, from subtle level management to dramatic artistic effects.

Key Features

01Separately controlled Compressor, Limiter, Expander, and Gate sections
022-band sidechain EQ with audition function
03Selectable compression types: Normal, Classic, and Linear timing laws
04Variable soft ratio function with 5 dB increment settings from 0 dBr to –20 dBr
05Harmonic enhancement via Warmth function with Amount control and Max Trim
06Look-ahead processing for accurate peak control and gain timing
07Selectable re-dithering for mastering (16-bit and 24-bit options)
08Feed-forward architecture with logarithmic sidechain and exponential/linear time constants

Things to Try

  • 01Apply soft ratio at 5–15 dB to smooth compression transitions and allow faster attack times without audible artifacts
  • 02Use hold control in conjunction with release to extend gain recovery times while reducing low-frequency distortion
  • 03Set attack and release to mid positions with hold at minimum for natural dynamics matching ear response, as fixed in Classic mode
  • 04Increase attack time to create gain overshoots that tighten soft percussion sounds for artistic effect
