G8 is a high-quality noise gate that functions as both a professional dynamics workstation and experimental amplitude effect. Beyond traditional noise reduction, it enables creative applications including AM/granular synthesis, tremolo, transient shaping, and amplitude-dependent effect routing through its Reject Outputs and Flip Mode features.

Things to Try

  • 01For tremolo: Set Behavior to Cycle mode, Threshold to minimum, adjust Reduction for softness, and use Attack/Release/Hold to control speed
  • 02For AM Synthesis and Granulation: Start with Tremolo setup, then reduce Attack/Release/Hold to extremely low values (<50ms) and increase Delay to space grains
  • 03For Bouncing Ball MIDI Generation: Set Threshold to minimum, select Cycle mode, connect MIDI output to an instrument, then decrease Attack/Hold/Release times for rapid bounce and adjust Delay parameter
  • 04For Percussion Synthesizer: Use One-Shot mode with synth input, set Attack to ~10ms, Hold to 0ms, Release to ~100ms, and adjust Threshold appropriately
