Polysynth

Bitwig

Polysynth is a subtractive synthesizer featuring two identical, highly dynamic oscillators with extensive waveshaping capabilities, multiple blend operators for oscillator mixing, a multimode filter with seven filter types, and dual envelope generators. The instrument excels at generating complex, evolving textures through its rich oscillator architecture and flexible modulation routing, making it suitable for both precise synthesis and experimental sound design.

Key Features

01Two identical oscillators with dynamic waveshape display
027 filter types: gentle and 4-pole low-pass, band-pass, high-pass, and band-reject
036 blend operators: MIX, NEG, WIPE, AM, SIGN, MAX for oscillator mixing
04Unison mode up to 16 voices per note with detuning and width control
05Shape control blending sawtooth, pulse, and sub pulse waves across octaves
06Filter FM for audible-rate oscillator modulation of cutoff frequency
07Waveshaping with multiple nonlinear distortion modes
08Dual envelope generators (FEG and AEG) with polyphonic modulation sources

Things to Try

  • 01Adjust the Shape control from center to blend sawtooth, pulse, and one-octave-up waves, then use the pulse width control to morph the pulse wave character
  • 02Enable unison on either oscillator unit and set voices to 16v with the Unison knob at 100 cents for maximum detuning and Width control for panoramic spread
  • 03Use the AM blend operator with the 1/2 knob to apply amplitude modulation from oscillator 2 to oscillator 1, then modulate the 1/2 knob itself as a modulation target
  • 04Apply the waveshaping control with Drive adjustment to add nonlinear distortion to the blended oscillator signal before the filter
