Modulation

Flanger

PreSonus

Flanger is a modulation effect that creates spatial depths, swirls, timbre shifts, and percussive effects by splitting an audio signal into two identical paths, applying a varying short delay (0.25–10 ms) to one, and feeding it back to the input with adjustable feedback (-90% to 90%). The effect works equally well on guitar, synth, and other sources, with LFO modulation that can be tempo-synced for rhythmic, predictable movement.

Key Features

01Delay range from 0.25 ms to 10 ms
02Feedback control from -90% to 90% with phase inversion
03LFO modulation with tempo sync (4/1 to 1/64 with triplet and dotted variants)
04LFO-Amount parameter to modulate delay time from 0 to 2x Speed at 100%
05Multichannel enhancement with Surround Distribution, Spatial Mode (Circular, Left/Right, Front/Rear), and Stereo Spread controls
06Speed/Beats parameter for LFO control (0.01 Hz to 10 Hz or tempo-synced)
07Wet/Dry Mix control from 0 to 100%

Things to Try

  • 01Set Feedback to high positive values (closer to 90%) for resonant, swirling tones that build in intensity
  • 02Use LFO-Amount at 100% to modulate the delay time across its full range (0 to 2x Speed) for dramatic sweeping effects
  • 03Engage Sync and select longer beat values (like 4/1 or 2/1) to create slow, ambient flanging that locks to your session tempo
  • 04With multichannel audio, choose Spatial Mode set to Circular for a rotating flanging effect across surround channels
