Dr. Octo Rex is a REX loop sampler and successor to Dr. Rex that can hold and manipulate up to eight different REX loops simultaneously across eight pattern memory slots. It enables tempo-independent playback and editing of ReCycled drum loops and audio samples by working with individual slices, allowing creative rearrangement and processing without pitch degradation.

Things to Try

  • 01Use the Alt parameter to assign multiple snare or hi-hat slices to the same Alt group (1-4) for random playback variation each cycle
  • 02Activate the Bar, Beat, or 1/16 button in Trig Next Loop to control the timing precision when switching between loops during playback
  • 03Use Slice Edit Mode to edit one parameter across all slices at once by selecting the parameter name and drawing values directly in the waveform display
  • 04Automate the Note To Slot parameter to switch between REX loops for every single sequencer note, enabling beat mangling by mixing slices from different loops
