Processed Pianos is a Rack Extension piano instrument by Reason Studios that combines three hyper-sampled grand and upright pianos with a comprehensive creative processing chain. It offers intuitive microphone blending, allowing users to mix recordings from multiple mic positions (6 different configurations per piano) with insert effects, send effects, and master processing to craft custom piano sounds from ambient to aggressive, suitable for any genre.

Things to Try

  • 01Balance the Ambience microphone with a touch of distortion by setting the Lo-Fi Distort knob for a washed-out yet character-driven tone
  • 02Give the Steinway's Ribbon mic a tasteful echo effect by setting the Echo send knob and adjusting the Multi-Tap Echo Time and Feedback parameters
  • 03Blend a Close mic'ed Steinway K upright with the Floor microphones of a Yamaha C7 to create a custom hybrid piano sound
  • 04Use the Frequency Shifter with low Range values and 50% Dry/Wet setting to create barber's pole phasing (phaser/flanger effect)
