Sawer

Image-Line

Sawer is a vintage modeling synthesizer by Image-Line that delivers precisely articulated and punchy sounds capable of cutting through a mix. Inspired by rare 1980s Soviet-era analog synthesizers, it combines traditional subtractive synthesis with physical envelope modeling and carefully crafted filters that can sound bright and clean or gritty and grungy with resonance.

Key Features

01SAW main oscillator with Sync frequency modulation
02Sub oscillator with square/saw shapes, octave (-2 to +2), phase and detune controls
038-voice unison with stereo panning, detune, and Octaver for harmonic expansion
044 filter modes: LP 12dB/Oct, LP 24dB/Oct, Band Pass, High Pass with self-oscillation
052 ADSR envelope generators with one user-assignable to modulation parameters
06Physical envelope modeling with sample-accurate real-time rendering
07Ring modulation, keyboard tracking, and velocity tracking
084 built-in effects: Chorus, Phaser, Delay with LO-cut/HI-cut, Reverb

Things to Try

  • 01Automate the Sync-frequency control for cutting and evolving saw-sounds with dynamic harmonic content
  • 02Use very short delay time values to produce reverb-like ambience, or longer asymmetrical settings for ping-pong left-right effects
  • 03Apply LO-cut in the delay feedback loop to thin out longer echo tails and reduce low frequency buildup
  • 04Modulate the Filter cutoff frequency with the Envelope section to add expression and note-dependent tonal shaping
